Angelus ad mulieres by Melchior Vulpius — Lyrics
About Angelus ad mulieres
This motet for SSATTB voices opens with a sense of wonder and divine announcement. Melchior Vulpius sets the Latin text telling of the Angel at the tomb. The angel reassures the women, telling them not to be afraid, for the Jesus they seek has risen and is not there. He instructs them to go and tell the disciples that he will go before them into Galilee, where they will see him. The musical setting reflects the dramatic biblical narrative, with the intricate interplay of the eight voices building to a jubilant Alleluia.
