Andino Uwem by Gospel Isaac — Lyrics
About Andino Uwem
"Andino Uwem" (Giver of Life) is a vibrant Efik/Ibibio thanksgiving and offertory hymn arranged by Gospel Isaac. The piece carries a fascinating musical history: its melody is adapted from Miriam Makeba’s classic song "One More Dance," thoughtfully transformed here into a sacred choral offering. This kind of adaptation brings a familiar, joyful rhythmic energy to the choir loft, making it an instant favorite for the congregation during the presentation of gifts.
The lyrics beautifully acknowledge God as the ultimate provider. Across four verses, the choir sings of the Lord of heaven and earth who grants life, health, and daily sustenance ("Udia nkọ ye nsọn idem"). The text moves from physical blessings to the ultimate spiritual gift—God giving His only Son to redeem us on earth. It humbly notes that whatever gifts we bring to the altar cannot compare to the true glory waiting for us in heaven.
With its lively, rhythmic flow and stacked harmonies, the song builds to an earnest refrain calling out to the "Andinọ" (Giver). It is a perfect fit for Offertory processions or general thanksgiving, inviting the whole church to reflect on God's boundless generosity while swaying to a melody rooted in rich African musical heritage.
