An Anthem for Ordination by Jacob French — Lyrics
Descend from heaven, celestial Dove,
Inspire our souls with perfect love,
And tune our feeble lays.
Beam on our minds thy heavenly fire,
And teach our bosoms to aspire
To nobler songs of praise.

About An Anthem for Ordination
An Anthem for Ordination is a sacred work by Jacob French, set for SATB choir in English. The text invokes the Holy Spirit, asking for inspiration and divine love, reflecting on the darkness of ignorance before enlightenment. The composer explores themes of spiritual guidance and the search for peace, contrasting past discord with the potential for 'nobler songs of praise'. This anthem would be suitable for occasions marking spiritual transition or the bestowal of grace, offering a prayer for divine presence and renewed purpose.
