Amour hellas

This secular French chanson for SATB voices captures the poignant lament of unrequited love. The text speaks of the futility of devotion to love, which promises happiness but ultimately brings pain and suffering. The composer Ebran uses the rich textures of four-part harmony to express the singer's deep emotional turmoil. This is music for a moment of reflection, perhaps during a concert programme that explores themes of love and loss, or simply as a beautiful example of Renaissance vocal writing. The straightforward yet expressive melody, supported by Ebran's sensitive harmonic language, makes it an ideal choice for choirs seeking to perform engaging French chansons.
