Amorose viole by Giaches de Wert — Lyrics
About Amorose viole
Giaches de Wert's Amorose viole is a secular Italian madrigal for SSATB. The text addresses violets, whose name echoes that of the beloved. The poet declares that his heart longs for her above all others. Though he sees the violets with joy, they remind him of the cause of his suffering. He assures the violets that even if they seem languid, they will not die, for he will keep them alive through the tears that stream from his heart and fall from his eyes.
