Amor s'hai pur desio

Giaches de Wert’s Amor s’hai pur desio is a passionate Italian madrigal for SSATB voices. The text expresses an intense desire for love to consume the singer, asking that the beloved’s gaze, which ignited the flame, be fixed upon them eternally. The plea is for this sweet light to remain until the singer is completely consumed by love’s fire, painting a vivid picture of unrequited or overwhelming adoration. Wert, a master of the late Renaissance madrigal, brings this dramatic text to life through intricate vocal writing, capturing the raw emotion and expressive text setting characteristic of the genre. The interplay between the five voice parts creates a rich and dynamic sonic experience, ideal for exploring the depths of human feeling.
