Amor da che tu vuoi by Adrian Willaert — Lyrics
About Amor da che tu vuoi
Adrian Willaert, a Flemish composer who spent much of his career in Italy, was a leading figure in the development of the Italian madrigal. Amor da che tu vuoi is a fine example of this secular genre, written for SATTB choir. The text expresses a lover's plea to Cupid. The singer begs the god of love to grant him grace, lest the splendor of his beloved's eyes, and the subtlety of her words, kill him. He warns that anyone who can gaze upon and listen to such a couple without being overcome by pleasure could surely face down the mythical sirens and basilisk without fear.
