About Amate mi ben mio
Truid Aagesen was a composer of secular Italian madrigals in the Renaissance. This example, Amate mi ben mio, is written for three male voices (TTB). The text expresses a passionate plea for love, with the singer declaring that their heart disdains all other sustenance, living only for love. They pledge to love in return if their affections are reciprocated, promising enduring love. However, they lament that if love is denied, they will die in despair, unable to bear not loving without being loved in return.
