Ama Giesu by André Vierendeels — Lyrics
Ama Giesu
dona gli'l core,
ch'è tutto amore,
che brami piu
ogni dolcezza,
ogni grandezza,
in se racchiude.
E Re del Ciel,
quel Pargoletto,
che con diletto
sott' uman vel,
scherza'e gioisce,
d'amor languisce,
appena nato.

About Ama Giesu
André Vierendeels' Ama Giesu opens with a gentle and devotional mood, perfectly suited to its Italian sacred text. The SAT voicing allows for rich harmonic interplay, weaving a sound-world that reflects the text's profound message of love for Jesus. The lyrics express the sweetness and grandeur found in Christ, urging the listener to leave earthly concerns behind and find paradise in his divine presence. It speaks of the awe-inspiring humility of God, the King of Heaven, lying in a manger, and calls for all to honor and adore him as our God. This motet offers a deeply moving contemplation of divine love and humble beginnings.
