Altdeutsches Minnelied, WoO 82

This secular four-part song in Middle High German captures the intimate sentiment of medieval courtly love, with lyrics that speak of an unbreakable bond: 'I am yours and you are mine, you are within my heart; the little key is lost, now you must always be within!' Josef Rheinberger’s setting for two sopranos, two tenors, and bass is a charming example of the German Lied tradition. The music reflects the simple, direct expression of devotion in the text, creating a warm and engaging atmosphere. This piece is ideal for choirs looking to explore the rich heritage of German secular part-songs, offering a delightful contrast to more complex repertoire.
