Als Maria, die Jungfraw schon by André Vierendeels — Lyrics
Als Maria, die Jungfraw schon
geboren hatt ihrn lieben Sohn,
zu Bethlehem in einem Stall
und nicht in Königlichem Saal,
wicklet sie ihn in Windelein
und legt ihn in das Krippelein,
Alleluia.
Neben dem schönen Kindelein
stund Loseph und Maria rein,
umbringt mit einer grossen Schaar
der lieben Engelein hell und klar,
die sungen mit innigkeit Lob,
Preysz und Danck in Ewigkeit,
Alleluia.

About Als Maria, die Jungfraw schon
This devotional German hymn paints a tender scene of the Nativity. It describes the Virgin Mary, having given birth to her beloved Son in a humble stable, wrapping him in swaddling clothes and laying him in the manger. The text further depicts Joseph and Mary beside the beautiful child, surrounded by a host of bright angels singing praises and thanks. The choir sings this in STB voices, offering a sacred reflection on the birth of Christ.
