About Alma Redemptoris Mater a 8
This setting of the Marian antiphon Alma Redemptoris Mater is for double choir (SATB.SATB), allowing for rich sonic textures and antiphonal effects. The Latin text, a prayer to the 'Soul of the Redeemer's Mother', invokes her as the 'gate of heaven' and 'star of the sea', asking for succour for a people striving to rise from falling. It recalls her miraculous conception of Christ, her perpetual virginity, and the angelic greeting, before pleading for mercy for sinners. Teodoro Clinio's motet explores the profound devotional sentiments of this ancient text, offering a powerful experience for choir and listeners alike.
