About Alma beata e bella
Girolamo Scotto's secular Italian madrigal Alma beata e bella is written for three voices (STT). The music opens with imitative entries that build into a rich texture. The text, which is in Italian, speaks of a blessed and beautiful soul ascending to heaven, free from earthly bonds, where it rejoices, outshining the sun and treading among the stars. The soul is depicted as pasturing celestial flocks with its saints and shepherds, a serene image of heavenly peace.
