About Alles, was ihr tut

Dietrich Buxtehude, a leading figure of North German Baroque organ music, composed this sacred cantata for SATB soloists and chorus. The work sets German biblical texts, beginning with a passage from Colossians (3:17) urging all actions to be done in Jesus' name, giving thanks to God the Father. This is followed by an aria which expands on the theme of selfless devotion, declaring that all thoughts, strengths, and desires are to be offered to God alone for His praise. The text encourages jubilant singing and the playing of instruments to lift hearts heavenward. The final section includes an arioso, drawing from Psalm 37:4, continuing the prayer for divine assistance in praising God and seeking salvation.
