Alleluia, alleluia by W. P. Rowlands — Lyrics

Alleluia, Alleluia, hearts to heaven and voices raise; sing to God a hymn of gladness, sing to God a hymn of praise: he who on the Cross a victim for the world’s salvation bled, Jesus Christ, the King of Glory, now is risen from the dead. Christ is risen, Christ the firstfruits of the holy harvest field, which will all its full abundance at his second coming yield; then the golden ears of harvest will their heads before him wave, ripened by his glorious sunshine, from the furrows of the grave.

About Alleluia, alleluia

This stirring SATB setting of the Easter hymn Alleluia, alleluia is ideal for services celebrating the resurrection of Christ. William Penfro Rowlands’s music captures the triumphant spirit of the text, which proclaims Christ’s victory over death and its implications for believers. The English lyrics speak of hearts and voices raised in gladness, praising God for Christ’s sacrifice and his rising from the dead. The composer’s setting reflects the devotional and joyful nature of the hymn, making it a powerful choice for congregational singing or a choir’s offering during the Easter season.
