About Alla luce

Giovanni Girolamo Kapsperger was a noted composer and lutenist of the early Baroque. This secular Italian song, Alla luce, is written for two tenors. The text calls to shepherdesses to return to their pleasures and hunts, awakened by the light of the dawn. It describes how the morning unfolds with blooming roses and flowers, the sun rising, and nightingales singing, urging the shepherdesses to rejoin the celebrations and pursuits of the day. The music reflects this pastoral scene, with the two tenor voices interweaving to evoke the pastoral atmosphere and the awakening of nature.
