All Round is Hushed by Philip P. Bliss — Lyrics
All around is hushed in slumber,
Earth is still, it’s labors close;
While the hours in song we number
Soothing thee to sweet repose.
Peaceful, peaceful be thy sleep,
Sweetly dream, nor wake to weep.
Calmly on thy pillow sleeping,
Naught of ill disturbs thy breast;
Angel guards their watch are keeping,
Soothing still thy soul to rest.

About All Round is Hushed
All Round is Hushed captures a scene of deep peace and tranquility. The text paints a picture of a world at rest, where slumbering nature and gentle repose invite sweet dreams. It then transitions to a hopeful awakening with the dawn, encouraging a rise to deeds of love and a life of peaceful continuity. Set by P. P. Bliss, this SATB setting of the English text is a beautiful example of the secular part-song tradition. Its flowing melodic lines and gentle harmonies evoke the serenity of the lyrics, making it suitable for moments of quiet reflection or contemplative programming.
