This is a secular madrigal from the Renaissance by Giovanni Gastoldi. It is set for three voices (SST). The German text speaks of a lover's sorrow and unrequited affection. The singer laments his lack of joy and his suffering, feeling trapped by love and unable to find solace. He yearns for his beloved, but she remains silent, leaving him to languish and feel neglected. He receives no comfort from her, burdened by his deep unhappiness and feeling scorned.
