ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS’ NAME

"All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name" is one of those grand, sweeping hymns that immediately lifts the energy in the church. With words by Edward Perronet, it is a massive call to worship, inviting everyone—from the angels and martyrs to all tribes and tongues—to recognize Christ as King. When the choir opens up on that first line, you can feel the congregation sit up a little straighter.

In Nigerian parishes, we often bring this out for the Feast of Christ the King, or as a powerful Entrance or Recessional hymn on major solemnities. This arrangement, set to the famous "Diadem" tune, is a favorite for choirs because of the cascading "crown Him" section. The voice parts echo and build on each other, creating a wave of sound that feels like a true royal procession.

Singing this piece requires stamina and a good grasp of the repeating entries, especially when the tenors and basses drive the rhythm forward under the soaring soprano line. By the time we reach the final verse, asking every tribe and tongue to lift high the universal song, the whole church is usually singing along, ending the Mass on a note of absolute triumph.
