About All Hail the Power!

"All Hail the Power!" (widely known by its opening line, "All hail the power of Jesu's name") is one of the most triumphant hymns in Christian worship. Set here to the soaring "Diadem" tune by James Ellor, the piece is an exultant call to recognize Christ as King of kings and Lord of lords. In Nigerian parishes, this hymn frequently rings out from the choir loft during festive processions, Christ the King celebrations, or as a grand recessional that sends the congregation forth with a spirit of victory.

The "Diadem" arrangement is particularly beloved by choirs for its thrilling, layered vocal entries. After the sturdy opening phrases, the parts break into a cascading "crown Him" sequence. The lower voices begin the driving repetition while the sopranos hold a soaring note, creating a rising tide of praise that sweeps up the whole ensemble. This dynamic build-up requires attentive counting and confident entries from every section during rehearsals. When the voices finally reunite for the massive, unified final phrase, it lifts the entire church in a powerful declaration of faith.
