About Alba in fiorite e amene
This delightful Italian madrigal by Camillo Zanotti paints a pastoral scene where a shepherdess, seated by a flowering riverbank, asks her shepherd where a good kiss comes from. He asks Love, who sends her from Cytherea. She then gives him a kiss, explaining that her lips provide what he seeks. The shepherd is left in despair. Written for SSATTB voices, this secular piece is a charming example of Renaissance part-music, capturing the amorous and often witty sentiments typical of the genre.
