Al primo vostro sguardo

Giovanni Ferretti's Al primo vostro sguardo is a vibrant Italian madrigal for SATTB choir, perfect for a concert programme evoking the passions of love. The text describes the immediate and overwhelming impact of seeing a beloved for the first time, likening the experience to being struck by Cupid's dart. The singer's heart is aflame, his eyes drawn to the beauty of golden tresses, leading him to cry out that he burns and dies for love. Ferretti's setting captures the intensity of these emotions with rich harmonies and a lively interplay between the voices, making it an engaging and dramatic choice for a choir seeking expressive Renaissance part-music.
