About Ak, Gaismas Dievs
This hymn, Ak, Gaismas Dievs, would be fitting for services of Christmas or Epiphany, or for any occasion that celebrates the divine light of Christ. The SATB choir setting is in Latvian, a language whose lyrical beauty is well suited to devotional music. The text extols God as the creator of the stars and the sender of the Savior, who brings light and redemption to all people. It reflects on the sacrifice of the Son of God and asks for His reign over us, granting forgiveness of sins and eternal life. The hymn concludes with a doxology praising the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
