Ai de mim pelo pecado — Lyrics
Ai de mim, pelo pecado,
Sem meu Deus, sem pai fiquei.
Céus, ó céus, que desvairado!
Que fiz fiz eu? Quanto pequei!
Dele o sangue sacrossanto,
muitas vezes derramei!
A mim mesmo causo espanto,
Que fiz fiz eu? Quanto pequei!
Meu Jesus, muito vos devo,
Sempre a todos o direi.
A falarvos mal me atrevo:
Que fiz eu? Quanto pequei!

About Ai de mim pelo pecado
This deeply devotional Portuguese hymn expresses profound sorrow and repentance for sin. The text laments the singer's failings, acknowledging how they have turned away from God and caused suffering to Jesus. The music is a simple, unison melody, suitable for congregational singing or as a heartfelt solo expression. Its directness and emotional sincerity make it a powerful plea for forgiveness and a call to intercession from the Virgin Mary, asking for guidance towards true contrition.
