Ahi che per altro

This secular Italian madrigal by Vittoria Aleotti is set for SATB voices. Its text explores themes of love and longing, with the narrator lamenting a lover's perceived indifference and the pain of unfulfilled desire. Aleotti, a composer of the late Renaissance, was known for her skill in crafting intricate vocal lines and expressive harmonies. This piece, with its rich SATB texture, offers a compelling opportunity for choirs to explore the emotional depth and contrapuntal richness characteristic of the madrigal tradition. It would be an excellent choice for a concert programme seeking to showcase virtuosic unaccompanied choral writing.
