Aftonstjärnan by Ivar Hallström — Lyrics
Du stjärna så klar, som fjärran du far,
så kär jag dig alltid av hjärtat dock har.
Ja, kär är du mig på himmelens stig!
Ditt lysande öga ser alltid på mig,
och vart du än går, jag söker ditt spår.

About Aftonstjärnan
Ivar Hallström was a Swedish composer active in the late Romantic period. Aftonstjärnan is a secular work for SATB choir sung in Swedish. The text expresses a heartfelt devotion to a star, personifying it as a distant yet constant presence. The singer longs to be like the star, whose friendly eye never leaves them and who gently bids them goodnight. The music likely reflects this intimate and slightly wistful text with lyrical melodies and expressive harmonies suitable for a mixed-voice choir. It is a beautiful example of Swedish Romantic part-song.
