About Afferentur regi

This grand motet by Palestrina is suitable for use during services of Holy Communion. The text, taken from the Vulgate Bible, speaks of virgins being brought before the king in gladness and exultation, entering the temple. Palestrina's setting is for a substantial choir of five voices (SATTB), employing his characteristic imitative polyphony and rich harmonic language to evoke the solemnity and splendor of the occasion. The Latin text allows for a focus on the pure sound of the voices, creating a devotional atmosphere perfect for sacred occasions.
