About Advent II Gradual & Alleluia
Henry Bird Collins composed this SATB setting of the Gradual and Alleluia for the second Sunday of Advent. The Latin text, drawn from the Mass propers, begins with words from Psalm 49: "Out of Sion, his glorious beauty, God shall come manifest." It continues with "He shall gather to him his saints, who have set his covenant above his sacrifices." The setting then moves to the Alleluia, followed by the text from Psalm 121: "I rejoiced when they said unto me, We will go into the house of the Lord." This is a substantial setting suitable for a church choir seeking a powerful liturgical work.
