About Adoremus regem

Johannes Lupi's Adoremus regem is a sacred motet for SATTB choir, sung in Latin. The text opens by proclaiming adoration of a great king, the Lord, who is wonderful in his saints. It then shifts to the discovery of the body of Saint Stephen, a miraculous earthquake and a sweet fragrance filling the air. The motet celebrates the exultation of angelic hosts and the sweet praises resounding to Saint Stephen. It recalls how he enjoyed the vision of the King for whom he trampled worldly glory and delivered himself to death unconquered. Finally, the choir pleads for his help.
