OROVWORI NARU-EDON

"Orovwori Naru-edon" is a reverent Urhobo setting of the Kyrie eleison, composed by Mathias Oche. Sung during the Penitential Rite at the beginning of Mass, the piece leads the congregation in a humble plea for God's forgiveness and compassion before entering into the Liturgy of the Word.

The arrangement features a layered, polyphonic entry where the voices build upon one another, creating a sense of earnest, collective prayer. As the choir moves through the traditional threefold invocation—calling on the Lord ("Orovwori") and Christ ("E Christi") to have mercy ("naruedon")—the rhythmic yet solemn flow of the Urhobo text helps center the minds and hearts of the assembly.
