About Adjuva nos, Deus
Thomas Crecquillon's Adjuva nos, Deus is a powerful motet for ATBB choir, sung in Latin. The text, drawn from Psalm 79, is a desperate plea for divine intervention. It describes the desecration of sacred land and the suffering of God's people, crying out "How long, Lord, will you be angry forever?" and begging for God's wrath to be poured out on those who do not know Him, while remembering their own past sins. The composer's setting would have been conceived for a solemn liturgical occasion, perhaps within the context of Vespers or a votive office, reflecting the deeply penitential nature of the psalm.
