Adiuro vos by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina — Lyrics

About Adiuro vos

This powerful motet from Palestrina, Adiuro vos, is suitable for any sacred occasion. The Latin text is drawn from the Song of Songs, a poetic dialogue of love between the bridegroom and bride. The SAATB voicing allows for rich harmonic textures and expressive vocal interplay. The music vividly portrays the longing and searching of the bride for her beloved, culminating in a detailed, sensuous description of his beauty. Palestrina masterfully uses the voices to reflect the intimate and passionate nature of the text, creating a moving experience for both choir and listeners. This work is an excellent choice for choirs looking to explore the expressive capabilities of Renaissance polyphony in a sacred context.
