Adam lay ybounden

This carol is perfect for Christmas services. Its text, a medieval poem, reflects on the Fall of Adam and Eve and the subsequent redemption through the Virgin Mary, highlighting the significance of the 'apple' that led to humanity's sin but also to the eventual grace of salvation. The composer, Maxim Meshkvichev, sets this rich narrative for two choirs of SATB, creating a powerful and layered sound. The double choir arrangement offers exciting possibilities for antiphonal effects, dynamic contrast, and a grand, resonant acoustic, making it a compelling choice for festive occasions.
