Ad preces nostras deitatis aures by Tomás Luis de Victoria — Lyrics
About Ad preces nostras deitatis aures
Tomás Luis de Victoria, the most famous Spanish composer of the 16th century, wrote this devout Latin setting for SATB choir. As sacred polyphony for the Office, it follows the tradition of the Counter-Reformation, drawing texts from liturgical sources. The text itself is a plea for divine mercy and salvation. It begins by asking God to incline his ear to the prayers of his servants, then implores him to look down from his holy throne and dispel the darkness from our hearts. The singers express remorse for sins and ask for forgiveness and redemption, ultimately seeking divine love and eternal light to be infused into their souls.
