Ad caenam agni providi by Jan Le Febure — Lyrics
1. Ad cenam Agni providi,
stolis salutis candidi,
post transitum maris Rubri
Christo canamus principi.
2. Cuius corpus sanctissimum
in ara crucis torridum,
sed et cruorem roseum
gustando, Deo vivimus.
3. Protecti paschae vespero
a devastante angelo,
de Pharaonis aspero
sumus erepti imperio.
4. Iam pascha nostrum Christus est,
agnus occisus innocens;
sinceritatis azyma
qui carnem suam obtulit.

About Ad caenam agni providi
Jan Le Febure’s setting of the Latin hymn Ad caenam agni providi is for SATB choir. The text, a significant Office hymn, celebrates the Paschal feast. It uses imagery of the Exodus and the Lamb of God to proclaim Christ’s victory over death and the liberation of his people. The composer’s music would have been intended to carry the solemnity and exultation of the Easter celebration, offering a powerful expression of faith for the liturgical context.
