About Ab oriente venerunt magi

Wise men from the East arrived in Bethlehem to adore the Lord, bringing precious gifts: gold as for a great King, frankincense as for true God, and myrrh for his burial. This sacred motet by Jacobus Clemens non Papa, written for SATTB voices, sets this Gospel text with clear, flowing lines. The composer masterfully portrays the reverence and awe of the Magi's visit, culminating in the joyful Alleluia. Clemens non Papa was a prominent composer of the High Renaissance, known for his expressive motets, and this piece showcases his skill in setting liturgical texts for a rich, five-part choir.
