Cristoforo Malvezzi's A voi, reali amanti is a secular madrigal for SATTB, SATBB, and STTBB voices. The Italian text offers praise to noble lovers, comparing their magnificence to the adornment of nature. Flora, the goddess of flowers, is said to bloom with pearls and rubies for them, while the river Arno is bedecked with silver waves and golden shores. The lyrics call for weaving garlands for these great kings, using flowers and adornments from paradise, with stars, the sun, and the moon entwined at their royal fountain. This polyphonic setting captures the elaborate figurative language typical of the madrigal genre.
