A Prayer for December by William D. Thompson — Lyrics
Dearest God, please never let me crowd my life to the brim,
so like the keeper of Bethlehem's inn, I find I have no room for Him.

About A Prayer for December
William D. Thompson's A Prayer for December for SATB voices opens with a gentle, reflective mood, the individual voices weaving together to create a sense of quiet contemplation. The music perfectly embodies the humility and sincerity of the English text, which is a prayer for spiritual openness during the Christmas season. The lyrics ask that one's life not be so full of other concerns that there is no room for Christ, and instead express a desire to keep the heart's door open to welcome the King. This devotional anthem builds in intensity as it urges the singer to offer their best to the one who gives everything, making it a poignant choice for Advent or Christmas services.
