A l'alma tua bellezza by Scipione Dentice — Lyrics
A l'alma tua bellezza,
O Regina del Ciel si rassimiglia
Ciò, che nel mondo è bello a meraviglia:
Ma ogni mortal bianchezza,
De la man bianca il bianco avorio eccede:
Onde l'alma mia vaga
Del vago paragon gia non s'appaga

About A l'alma tua bellezza
This sacred madrigal by Scipione Dentice for SATB voices sets a text by Cesare Rinaldi. The music opens with a vivid depiction of the text's imagery, exploring the beauty of the soul and the Queen of Heaven. Dentice crafts rich harmonic textures and intricate vocal interplay to express the devotional sentiments. The Italian lyrics explore how earthly beauty, even the whiteness of ivory, pales in comparison to celestial radiance, suggesting that true beauty is perceived by the eyes of faith. This piece offers a profound musical reflection on spiritual and earthly aesthetics, suitable for contemplative performance.
