Pomponio Nenna was a composer of madrigals in late Renaissance Italy. A chi vo chieder is a secular work for SAT voices, sung in Italian. The text expresses the singer's despair at being denied help by the very person who could offer it, lamenting a cruel heart that has banished pity. The words speak of a pain so profound that even a wild beast might be softened, yet the beloved remains unmoved. The singer questions this cruel archer for inflicting such pain, feeling that they are near death from unrequited devotion.
