Karel Bříza's responsory for two voices, S and T, sets a Czech text derived from the liturgy for the fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The music is notated on a standard staff. The text opens with the Beatitudes, 'Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven,' and continues with verses from Psalm 146, emphasizing God's justice and care for the oppressed, the hungry, the imprisoned, the blind, the downcast, the righteous, and the stranger, as well as the orphan and widow. The piece concludes by affirming God's eternal reign over Zion.
