This responsory, for two voices (soprano and tenor), is sung in Czech. It draws on the well-known words of Psalm 23, often called the Shepherd's Psalm. The text expresses profound trust in God's guidance and protection, portraying the Lord as a shepherd who provides sustenance, refreshment, and comfort, even through the darkest valleys. The composer Karel Bříza sets this familiar scripture with a reflective quality, affirming the peace found in dwelling in God's presence. The responsorial form invites a dialogue, with the choir singing the verses and a refrain responding, emphasizing the assurance of divine care and unending faithfulness.
