OUR OFFER by LAWRENCE XAVIER — Lyrics
About OUR OFFER
When the choir stands to lead the Offertory, we want a piece that gathers up the physical gifts of the congregation and points them toward the altar. Lawrence Xavier’s "Our Offer" does exactly this. It is an earnest hymn that asks God to receive not just our bread and wine, but our very hearts. The melody is straightforward and inviting, making it easy for the faithful to join their intentions with the choir as the procession moves up the aisle.
The verses walk us clearly through the mystery of the Mass. We begin by singing our songs of thanksgiving, calling our worship a joyful sacrifice. As the hymn progresses, the focus shifts to the altar itself. The lyrics remind us that the work of human hands—the bread and the cup we bring—will soon become the flesh and blood of Christ. It is a fitting piece to sing as the priest prepares the gifts, bridging the gap between our humble offerings and the profound moment of consecration.
